Hello, I am a numismatist who collects Lincoln Cents. I do not know of any 1987 wide AM variety, only 1998, 1999, and 2000. It is possible that you may have discovered a new variety. (Though VERY unlikely.) This leads me to believe you have mistakenly attributed it. If you would like further information on the subject of Lincoln cents and their varieties, I suggest the books: A Cherry pickers Guide to Rare Die Varieties, Volume I , by Bill Fivaz. Also try The Complete Guide to Lincoln Cents, by David Lange. I hope I helped you with your problem.

P.S. If you don't want to try those books for whatever reason the site by Ken Potter that was previously suggested may provide some help.

Wide Am Penny

I have never heard of a 1987 "wide AM" cent as well. Some close AMs do have a gap and that's probably what your cent has but the gap is not as wide as a "wide AM". Compare yours with a 1992 since they are wide. To be a real "wide AM" variety the FG initials must be closer to the building. Like some have mentioned above, you can consult Ken Potter or visit his site for some images of the varieties.

I don't keep up with the so called error coin market, I remember reading an article about the AM some time ago, but since I don't collect errors forgot what it said. Try Ken Potter he sells the coins and is a leading expert on error coins. www.koinpro.com or email him at, ken@koinpro.com Hope this points you in the right direction.
