The first answer is funny. They had real good roads, irrigation systems, communication, orderly effective government, great builders, coca leaves for stamina at high altitudes, farming on hillsides by terracing the land. They cared so they did. It's a beautiful country even today. Probably common sense also. Maybe the clear air clears your head. We think too much today and, well, "Study long, study wrong." and "educated idiot' might apply.

They were the first ones to cultivate potatoes. And the buildings that survived to this day can withstand earthquakes

I'd guess they had surveying equipment of one sort or another. Probably not polished glass instruments, but something.
