Every woman is different, but I'll tell you my experience. With my first, I was induced at 42 weeks. My doctor used cytotec, (no longer a commonly used drug for inducing labor). After 5 doses (no kidding) labor started. Within an hour, the contractions were extremely strong. I labored for 26 hours. About 5 hours in, the contractions were so strong I agreed to an epidural. After the 26 hours, my baby's heart rate dropped and I had to have an emergency c-section. From all other stories I've read, very strong contractions are common with inductions, and c-sections are not rare either. Try to relax, remain calm, and have your labor plan when you go to the hospital tonight... Who do you want in the room? Do you want an IV? Are you planning to go natural? At what point do you want an epidural? Would you prefer a walking epidural? Do you want an episiotomy? Do you want external monitors only? Or are you okay with internal monitors? Look online for labor plan checklists, fill one out and give it to your nurse, also make a copy for your labor partner so they can support you and know what you want, sometimes the pain makes decision making a little cloudy. Congratulations, and just remember before long, you will get to hold your miracle in your arms!!!

Yes to all! I have been induced twice and my doctor told me BOTH times that being induced takes DAYS and you could be in labor for days. It hurts more as well so make sure you get DRUGS AND LOTS OF THEM! LOL.
With my first son i was in labor and i do mean hard *** labor for 2 days almost 3. The whole time i was SCREAMING MY *** OFF. I Was scaring people in the waiting room and in the other rooms. I didnt have any drugs although i wish i would have now. The epidural didnt work on me and they gave it to me 3 times and they did it wrong (a new guy) and it ended up only numbing my left side. So i felt EVERYTHING from the labor pains to the pushing and him coming and EVERYTHING!
I couldnt walk after i had him! Only b/c of the numbing after numbing wore off i was fine. But if you tear it is a little uncomfortable but its tolerable i think.
My second i had a C-section. If you can avoid having those DO SO! DO NOT HAVE ONE UNLESS YOU HAVE TO. I had to. My son was a month early. Was in labor for 3 days this time. the pain from a c-sections sucks ***. You cant even pee on your own for 24 hours. Belly feels like jello, you cant walk b/c it hurts so damn bad. You literally feel like you have gotten shot with a really big gun if you can imagine that.
My kids are now 2 1/2 years old and 7 months old. If you ever need any advice or help let me know...send me a message or something.

I was induced with my 2nd child--went on my due date with the first.
The inducement was so much easier! The pain was managed better, I didn't have to sit at home and time contractions and wonder if I should go to the hospital or not (and be sent home like I was the 1st time...) My labor with my first was 53 hours and 1 minute. With my 2nd one, I was induced at 6:30 a.m., and he was born at 4:56 p.m. If this is any indication, an hour and a half before he was born, I took a really good nap.
You will get a pitocin drip in your IV. They will break your water, and the contractions will start. As they get stronger, they will offer you pain meds, first one injected into your IV, then later, if you've chosen to do so, you will get an epidural. They will check you periodically for dilation. When you are 10 cm dilated, presto! Pushing time!
Best wishes on the birth of your child!

I was induced with my first child and I didn't think it was any more painful than not being induced. I was in labor for about 8 hours with the first and less than 2 with the second, but I don't know if that was because I was induced. It is common for first labors to be longer. Just try to relax and not be too scared. You will do great!

I went into labor on my own, but due to a minor complication, they gave me the medication that induces labor to speed up the process. There was definitely a difference. The medication makes the contraction come closer together more quickly, so yes, unfortunately it is more painful. However, if you know this in advance, they can be ready with the epidural for you. It will be okay. Think about the sweet angel you get to hold in your arms when it's all over.

Personally, my labor was 22 hours with induction.. but as I've read on here, most ladies have had quick labors. So good luck to you!! Also, I only have 1 baby so far about to have a second so I don't know if it is more painful then naturally having one but I do know that it is very very painful. Just stay strong! I went for at least 12 of those hours of painful contractions without the epidural.. So you can do it!

being induced is pretty much exactly like being in "real" labor. People who go into labor on their ususally have the same medication in their IV they just may not be aware of it. Being induced does not cause your labor to be longer or short. The pitocin will make your contraction hard, closer together and more regular. You can get the epi it will help ease the pain. Good Luck

It really depends on your tolerance for pain and how they are inducing you. The one thing with having pitocin is you go from having no/light contractions to intense/longer contractions pretty quickly. I felt I wasn't prepared at all for that I thought I would still have the gradual build up in the contractions. If they are using the gel on your cervix (which I have heard works sometimes and not others) it tends to be more "natural". The best induction I had was when the doc just broke my water and let my labor progress naturally from that point.
My labors all varied in length: 1st labor with pitocin 5 hours 17 mins from 1st contraction to birth. 2nd child with pitocin 45 mins from 1st contraction til birth. 3rd child induced by breaking water 6 hrs 9 mins from breaking of water to birth. 4th child no induction 2 hrs from when I woke with a backache until birth. I also used no pain meds which can slow your labor.
Good luck!

Don't be nervous, you're in the homestretch. Every labor is different so I can't say that it will be longer, shorter or less painful. All 3 of mine were completely different and I was induced on all of them.
At this point, it's better out than in:-) Just focus on what you are doing, breathe and listen to your doctor. You'll be just fine. Best of luck.

my water broke one morning, but no contractions.. so they had to induce me.. my labor was only 3 hours after the induction.
Every labor is different. When getting induced, your contractions will probably hit you hard, as mine did. Getting induced, your labor could be shorter than if you werent', but every labor is different like I said. My doctors told me if I have another child, that to rush to the hospital and let them know i have a history of really quick labors. My doctor barely didnt make it to my labor, the nurses were about to catch my baby as she was coming out too soon.
When you are about to get induced, to help your fears, ask your doctor. You have to sign before you get induced, so just let them know what your fears are.
good luck to you and your baby!! Congradulations!!!!!!!
