If thankgiving in America falls on a Thursday. After stuffing your face with turkey does anyone actually go to work on Friday? Or do people ussually take an extra day off and make it a 4 day long weekend? I want to celebrate it but I am not sure how to? All I know is you need Turkey right? What if you have no family? Are you still allowed to celebrate it?

Thanksgiving is a time to sit back and reflect on what you are thankful for. It does not matter how you celibrate it, just pause and be grateful for something sometime during the day!

My husband works for the post office, and so he will not call in sick, because the pay for overtime is great (because nobody else wants to work it)! We are thankful for the money!

People celebrate Thanksgiving in different ways. The traditional way is with turkey and the whole she-bang, parades, football games and lots of noisy relatives...

Some people work the whole entire time...

Some people volunteer at a soup kitchen...

Some people sleep in and do nothing...

Some people are vegetarians and do a different meal...

Some people don't want to cook, and go to the restaurant.

Some people want to be with their relatives...

Some people stay away as far as they can and make plans to go shopping the next day, to catch all the sales...

There is no wrong way - just be thankful and enjoy!

For me, the Thanksgiving holiday is a secular day. It's about chowing down some good food and spending time with the family. As far as being "allowed to celebrate", don't be a dumb as$. Of course you can't! The US Thanksgiving Magistrate doesn't allow it. Gezzzz...what were you thinking? You MUST eat turkey and in the presence of other family members!

Generally most people get Friday off too.

Turkey is the most traditional main course but ham or roast beefs are not unheard of. Other dishes include mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, squash, and pumpkin pie.

Many people who have no family will celebrate it with their friends. Someone will host and make the main course and the guests can all bring a side dish or dessert. People who have nowhere to go are often invited to join a gathering or will form one themselves. If this isn't feasible, some people go out to dinner. Many restaurants will serve a special dinner on that day for people who don't cook.

I hope you are able to enjoy the holiday.

Many companies other than banking and retail, offer Friday as a holiday as many people travel great distances to visit with their families. As far as Turkey goes, it is a tradition only. You can really serve what ever you like. I have friends that do hams or a standing rib roast. You can celebrate with friends if you have no family. It is just a day to reflect on all that you have to be thankful for.

You can celebrate it no matter what! All you need is thanks! Turkey is traditional, but so is cranberry sauce, sweet potatotes, stuffing, corn bread, pumpkin pie, and corn. Just about everyone takes off that Friday! Who wants to do much at work on a friday after a holiday?! Take it off! It's better that way!
