I know that Minneapolis is a great, low-crime, community-based city, but is Denver? I have heard that its suburbs like Boulder and Golden are nice, but is the actual city good to live in?

Yes, the actual city of Denver is an extremely nice place to live. There is little crime and a community feeling. If anything, the actual city feels similar to a suburb compared to other major cities I've lived in such as Chicago, NY, and San Fran. Overall, Denver is a nice place to live if your criteria is low crime and a community feeling.

If you want to live in the city, then it is a nice place to live. I lived in the Washington Park neighborhood for a few years and it was really nice. Friendly neighbors, short distance to anywhere I wanted to be. If you can afford to live in Lodo, it's great! I had a friend that had a loft and it was awesome! Right by Coors Field, short walk to all the bars. Close to shopping (good luck with the grocery stores though). I feel safe walking with a friend at night in the city. I can't say that about a lot of other places. It's not my thing anymore, but if you want to live in the city, Denver is really great.

Most people who work in Boulder can't afford to live there. Golden is quite as bad but the closer you get to the mountains, the more it costs to live. Denver is the center of the metro area. Think "inner city." The best places to live are no where close to Denver.

For the most part. Denver, outside downtown, looks much like any other suburb, car-driven city. But the downtown area, around LoDo and the 16th Street Mall, as well as areas near downtown like Washington Park, are very pleasant. There's bad areas of Denver, of course. But for the most part, it's a very pleasant and relatively safe city.

The city of Denver is okay, but pretty expensive. The metro area around Denver is must better. Littleton, Broomfield, Golden, and Highlands Ranch are great places to live.

Personally, I would stay away from Denver and move the suburbs.

I lived in Denver when I was a kid - and I remember not being able to walk to my friends house alone because my mom was so scared of all the crime. BUT my parents live in Golden now and it is absolutely beautiful and they love the community they live in. You have everything you need right down the street, but you feel like you're still in the mountains.

Yes it is. But just like any city, the low income/minority neighborhoods have some crime (stay away from Colfax and Five Points) but the majority of it is very nice and clean.
