While I would generally be for democracy (in my defiinition of a democracy, the concept is that the will of the people becomes the rule of law), I think that the applications of the concept that we have seen around the world up to this point are flawed in general.
First off, in order for a true democracy to exist, the citizens of the nation/state must be fully involved in the governing process. They must be educated on the needs of the country and they must be able to make informed decisions regarding how those needs will be met. That is rarely uniform-instead, human nature takes over and different parts of the population are often educated at different levels. This leads to differing perspectives on the needs of the society and makes creating any form of legislation very difficult.
Thus we end up with the "representative democracy" that we often see as the model. Of course, this model is rife with many opportunities for corruption given that "representatives" of the democratic process may easily be moved by money, power, etc. etc. to act in a manner that is not in the best interest of the people.
Long and short-democracy as a concept is good, executing the concept needs a little work.

Democracy is for country
Country is not for Democracy
It depends upon what kind of democracy it is.
If it is like a democracy in Nepal then it should be removed. This democracy allows the people to do anything. Every day in some areas of Nepal there is problem of strike. The administration has no function there. The local people can take any action against the law but no action can be taken against them. The terrorist are in the government. Due to that democracy 85% of the industried are closed. GDP has decreased by 5%. The people are migrathing abroad to other country for employment. This kind of democracy is not nice. It must be removed by Millatery Rule or King's Rule.
Democracy is suitable where the leaders are good. Where they are educated. Democracy of US is very good. People as well as leader are educated.
Thats all

Democracy isn't the only viable for of government, nor is it necessarily the best.
Whether Democracy is good or bad is dependent upon your cultural beliefs. It works well in the west due to the belief structure that developed during the enlightenment which focuses of secularism, destruction of the gendered way of life that was unavoidable until that time, and the right to property. In other parts of the world, democracy simply won't work. Many cultures value other things like obedience to God, service to one another, allegiance to tribe or nation, etc. This a large part of the current problem in the Middle East. We came in promising to bring democracy, which horrified the Iraqi people. When they think of democracy they seem godlessness, prostitution, alcoholism, and all of the other negatives that come with increased personal freedom, and they said, "No, we'd like to keep it our way." When they saw that we weren't going to let them keep it their way, they decided that they needed to fight back.
So, to answer your question simply... the value of democracy depends on how much the people want to live under a democracy. If the people don't want democracy, then it is no better than a dictatorship. If they wan democracy, then it is probably the best government for them.

There must be a democracy or there would be no freedoms to perform certin activities, such as , the right to bear arms, the freedom of religion, freedom of speech, little things like that! However, at the same time, we must be open minded enough to realize that democracy is not the chosen government for all peoples. Other nations have a right to choose thier own form of government, even if we don't like it. They believe just as much in thier religion as we
ameicans do about ours. Who give us the right to take a stand & say that ours is the right & only one?! Democracy should be seen from outside the box as well as from the inside! That's the only way it can ever work!!!

"Democracy is two wolves and a lamb deciding what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the decision"
--Benjamin Franklin
The point--which is often ignored these days (it being in the interests of the politicians to get us to forget this--is that democracy, per se, is nothing but a means (giving the people a voice) to an end (individual liberty). To the extent democracy serves that end, it is a value. But when the majority (as in the "Jim Crow" South --vote to exploit and oppress a minority or otherwise abuse human rights, the fact that it is a "democratic decision" does not change the immmoral natue of the oppression.
Our founding fathers knew that--and we would do well to remember it.

FOR DEMOCRACY: It is a system where majority of the people decide on the issues and as such tends to have higher approval from the public. Everyone gets a say in how his/her life will be affected and the system is to prevent government using the populace as labor to support a wealthy elite with no chances for advancement.
AGAINST DEMOCRACY: Inefficient government requiring large bureaucracy to implement and easily susceptible to public misinformation campaigns as public tends not to verify facts but reacts to sound bytes. The smarter people tend to get shouted down by the stupider of the populace as "elitist know-it-alls" and "out of touch with the people".
As far as governments go the very best form is a Benevolent Dictatorship but it is easily corruptable
cantcu> a Republic is a form of democratic government...democracy is the concept of public voting and republic is the term used for a country whose government is a democracy

Indeed, am for democracy since it is a way of liberating the rights of the people. Freedom is very important in one's life. Great nations do have democracy. One way to prove to other nations that democracy is a form or so to speak the voice of the people. Besides isn't it when man was created he has all the freedom to do the righteous things. After all, democracy stands for civil rights!

Yes. Without democracy a country is unable to address issues of concern to the people and in the modern world this is totally nacceptable. All the non-constitutional monarcies have decayed and changed for a reason.
People may argue that a single person can be more efficient, without red tape and elections to wade through, but the red tape and elections are in place for a reason. That reason is to ensure that a country is a body of people, not a person with rule over a body of people.

There is no better alternative for common man ,than democracy ,to put forth his views, comments and direct participation by casting his vote. Every other form of government gets his contribution, but do not assure it's return to him.
But the functioning of democracy in certain countries defeats the basic purpose. It acts against the interests of common man.It allows rowdies and immoral to dominate. It breeds differences in the name of caste, creed and regionalism. The numbers of" poor and illiterates" are ever increasing .
People do not work.Hoardings go unabated. For a minute ,it allowed politicians to think about 'controlled democracy' like emergency and military guided rule as in Pakistan. The ills of democracy further sows disappointment in the minds and such minds are the play ground for fanatics to breed terrorism.

For, they should set up an electronic ballot counting system that will allow every single vote to count, and not go by the electoral college which was invented in the late 1700's! Come on we should have done away with that 4 centuries later. Each vote counts is the only true democracy.
