I read something very interesting yesterday. Apparently, scientists have found that most people can read and understand misspelt words quite well, provided the 1st and last letters of those words are in the correct place.
What do you think?

I can't believe how many of you have droned on about this being old news, when at least this is a moderately interesting point unlike 90 % of the rubbish on here. Change the record please!

I can 'understand what you have written despite the fact the letters are all jumbled up.
I work with students who commonly misspell words. They understand what they have written and so do I (with no difficulty at all). I am a good speller but I think too many people worry about 'correctness' while missing the message being conveyed. Not all find spelling easy. Those who do would do better by being understanding because everyone is good at something.

Well, look at all the practice we get at Yahoo! Answers!! ;)
And some people are better than others at deciphering gobbleygook. Just as some are better at puzzles. I think part depends on how well you read to begin with, plus how advanced is your vocabulary. And, maybe, how well you can spell. For instance, your brain would have a hard time unscrambling a word that you are not too familiar with.
It's all really interesting, though.

Yes, interesting to a degree, but why bother! Whats so hard about spelling correctly, especially with spell-check?
Would you buy a newspaper or a book that were full of such misspellings? No I wouldn't think so.
