It is probably the altenator. You should check the tension on the altenator belt. Is the belt slipping ? You may be able to fix this by just adjusting the belt. If not just rebuild the altenator for a few dollars.

You should have a light come on says ALT or there a gage that show the charging volts. Normally a car will run if the Battery is dead as the Alternator will run it once the car is jumped. You can go to Auto-Zone or many Parts stores and they can check this if you not have a Volt Meter.
For something free, see if you can remove the Battery Caps to check the water level. Clean the top off first with a teaspoon of baking soda mixed in a glass of water, it will foam and then rinse off with clean water. Remove the caps and if you see the plates add "distilled" (Not tap water) water to cover them. DO NOT overfill, you will see the bottom of where you fill to and then there a slot on the side for venting.

Should be the battery not taking the charge from the alternator. Most of the car parts stores will use a meter to check if for free or remove the battery and test it in about 20min.

Both. You need to replace the alternator and top charge the battery with a charger.

Take your battery to Autozone, and the will recharge it and test it for free. Then if the battery is good, take the car and battery to them, and they can test your alternator for free. It is impossible to know which one is bad until your recharge and test both components. Good luck.

Alternator..for sure..it is not recharging your battery when driving...but if your battery has become dry due to this problem you will either have to replace the battery as well or have it refilled.

Start your car and then disconnect the battery positive terminal while it is running, if the car stalls immediatly, it's your alternator, if the vehicle stays running, it's your battery.
