Most States have an apartment association that you can view a standard lease on their website for that state. If you are considering leasing a place though not everyone uses the same lease, they have to give you the opportunity to read the lease in full before you sign it. Most places will even let you take it home and read it and then come back to sign it.

You should always review the proposed lease prior to signing one. Any honest landlord should have no problem with providing you with a blank copy of the lease that they are asking you to sign. And if they refuse that request, do NOT rent from that landlord!

It's really not worth looking at the canned leases from various landlord associations. Landlords are generally free to modify those and the lease that any given landlord may be using could vary significantly from any canned lease.
