The Orioles' Erik Bedard (7-4, 3.40)is leading the majors with 149 strikeouts. Matsuzaka (10-6, 3.84) is the next best strikeout pitcher in the division (and 5th best in the MLB) with 123 Ks. You mentioned Beckett (12-2, 3.44), who is possibly having the best season in the division so far. Chien-Mien Wang (9-4, 3.36) is the Yankees' best pitcher, and he's having a good year (though he was injured for a bit) for a team that's struggling. Roy Halladay (10-3, 4.46) is a good pitcher, though now his ERA is a wee bit high. I don't know much about Tampa Bay's Jason Shields (7-4, 3.82, 116 strikeouts), but he seems to be a quality pitcher, especially considering his team's rank as last in the MLB.
I know that just covers the starting pitchers. Papelbon (1.93, 20 saves) is the strongest closer, and I voted quite a bit for Hideki Okajima (0.83) to get into the All-Star game, as he has been an excellent relief pitcher.

Well Beckett's having a great year, but I'll save you from reading his name in a thousand posts following this one.
What about Roy Halliday, of the Blue Jays? He has 10 victories, a less than stellar ERA (4.46), but the Blue Jays seem to hit for him whenever he's on the mound.
There's also Matsuzaka (10-6, 3.84 ERA), he had an extremely solid month of June with a sub 1.00 ERA.
Erik Bedard's also leading the league in strikeouts for the O's - he had 15 of them his last start!
Could I say Chien Ming Wang, too? 9-4, 3.36 ERA. With Beckett aside (cause you'll hear his name so much), these are IMO the three best pitchers right now in the AL East.

I'd have to go with Bedard and Beckett being a close 2nd. If Bedard was on a better team, he'd get more wins and more recognition as well. Beckett is starting to slow down a little bit. Bedard is still going strong, maybe getting stronger.

Eric Bedard has been downright filthy although he only has 7 wins he has an ERA of 3.40 where Beckett has a 3.44 and the biggest difference is that Bedard is leading the league in Strikeouts with 149 where as Beckett only has 92 Bedard has also pitched 19 2/3 more innings than Beckett making him more durable and his WHIP is also .01 points lower.
Becketts last start 6IP 9H 3ER 1BB 9K
Bedards last start 9IP 2H 0ER 0BB 15K

Beckett sucks. Try CM Wang of the Yankees. Didn't start out well, but is getting back on track. Quietly on pace 4 another 15 win season (18), and gets deep into the game.

in my opinion: i think of long island won't win the AL East. at first a-rod no longer doing something, derek jeter hasn't been hitting, Cano isn't doing as good as final 365 days, comparable with Swisher, martin. Pitching hasn't been there. in the event that they save going like this they are going to locate themselves in a extensive hollow come september. Tampa bay began off sluggish. The previous few weeks has been spectacular for this team. they have the excellent checklist in the majors for the reason that they permit bypass off that stoop. Matt Joyce has been spectacular hitting .365. Tampa Bay has a good possibility, they only could save up the pitching and hitting. And now the gang i think of will win in the Boston purple Sox have been given off to a foul start up 3-13. they have climbed up! Sweeping the Yanks. Adrian Gonzalez has been tearing it up. Jacoby Ellsbury is returned, Kevin Youkillis has been hitting very nicely. and probably their superb participant Jed Lowrie. This youngster hitting .320 and been great at short. Their pitching has been spectacular! Lester, beckett and Buchholz the two been great! The Boston purple Sox are mountaineering up in the status in basic terms 2.5 video games out of first. i think of the Boston purple Sox are the excellent wager to win the AL EAST!

You have to go with Erik Bedard. The big left-hander recently threw the first CG SHO of his career while facing the minimum 27 batters, is leading the world in strikeouts, and has won 4 out of his last 5 decisions.

Chien-Ming Wang. All you Yankee-haters are going to feel so stupid when he wins Game 5 of the World Series and clinches for the Bronx Bombers.
C.C. Sabathia? Johan Santana? John Maine?!? Wrong divisions, people.

sounds to me like you have tailored your question so that Beckett is the only answer.
AL East.
Beckett
Bedard
Halladay
Shields
amongst starters
Although of this group I don't believe Beckett is the best, he is certainly doing the best this year so far. In that group, I would rather have Halladay over anyone
