It looks like someone put in sheetrock but did not tape or mud it before putting texture on the ceiling. It has ridges, pretty big ones, every 4 feet. Looks bad. How can I fix that short of knocking it all down and starting over? I don't know how to do the work myself and would have to hire it done if I take it down and start over. Any ideas how to make it look better? Panel it? Texture it over their texture and hope the lines don't show? Any and all suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Tongue and groove wood is an option but like others said just as pricey. Another option is to have professional in to skim coat over all the ceiling.

Chances are the joints were not taped properly before the texture was sprayed on. They need to be taped and smoothed to make them invisible. Spraying more texture will not hide the problem.
Get an estimate from anyone who does drywall.

Heavy texture.
Stomp it with 3 scrub brushes attached to a pole. Twist them as you dip into a heavy texture. The finish will appear as swirls.
It also can be sprayed, but messy.
Best done by a professional.

I would mud in the seams and than get someone to respray the new areas to match the already existing texture. Its really easy as long as the person doing it knows what theyre doing

Now where did this turkey come from that was supposed to answer your question instead just vented his frustrations out on you after someone urinated in his cereal this morning Good luck with your ceiling, by the way.

I would fix new sheekrock and get the job done properly. It will look better than a repair job and will take about the same time.
