It didn't happen to me, but I can tell you that at 10 cent. most of the pain is over with. Honestly, as an OB/GYN and mother of twins, the contractions are the worst part of it. I've seen numerous patients who didn't quite take to the epidural and we couldn't give them any more. your body wouldn't be able to push the baby out if you had any more. it wouldn't know how.

No. I got my epideral at the last min - I think I was like 7 cm. I went early & didn't get through all my classes to prepare me for labor, so I didn't know too much about it. I thought I was supose to feel nothing at all. So when I still felt some pain, they upped it. Then I was completely numb - I couldn't feel the contractions, or the baby comming out, or even lift/move my legs on my own. I wish I didn't have so much, I could hardly walk afterwards for a little while & it made me sick, I had the mirgraine headache for a week. And the day I was to take my son home I threw-up & was not in the mood to take that hr drive there & back to pick him up, but I wanted him home. So, in my eyes, you're lucky, I'd rather of felt something & not be sick, than nothing.

i don't want to scare anyone off from having a epidural but yes this happened to me as well. but I think it was the anesthesiologist's fault. my epidural only worked on the right side of my body. and it made labor and delivery even harder and longer for me. (36 1/2 hours) with #2 i didn't get to the hospital in time for an epidural but my labor was pain-full but quick ( 4 hours total) once it was over the oly pain i had was in my back and i recovered 10 times quicker.

I had an epidural and it didn't help much at all. A lot of times it doesn't. I think it really depends on the person. Some people feel nothing and have to be told when to push because they can't feel the contractions.

yes, they gave it to me didn't work at all and to make things worse I was sitting up in the bed and the nurse put me down to see how far dilalated I was and I went into full blown labor instantly and both my doc and mid wife were in the middle of a birth. Nurses started to panic on me because my daughter head was like right there and no one around the doc got in there and I started to rip so he shot me with the numbing stuff but before it could take effect he sliced. but epidurals don't always work. and congrads.

Well.. I was induced and my labor was 22 hours. I got an epidural after 12 hours or so but it didn't work very good because I still felt EVERYTHING..

I cant really answer that for you because i didnt have an epidural but i know that they cant give you one once you are 10 cent. dilated because it can really harm the child.

Not to me, cuz I didn't have an epidural, but I have heard of that - them not being able to give you anything that close to the birth.

Nope, I had my own little button to push to give me more. Though they asked that I try not to use it towards the end as I wanted to have a little feeling so I could push.

Yes. You need all your energy to push, even if painful. Don't feel bad, when my second baby came, I was so dilated when I got the hospital, no pain killers allowed. I felt every inch of her. But with all babies, the pain is so easy to forget! Congrats on your new little one!
