Part of why we don't notice the pressure of the atmosphere is because it matches our internal pressure. We equalize the two every time we take a breath.

We do notice differences in pressure...when we go up or down rapidly in an airplane, for example. We get pretty uncomfortable until our bodies can equalize the pressure. Equalizing the lungs is easy, but the sinuses take longer, which is why our ears pop.

But so long as we're in equilibrium with our surroundings, most of our body's sensors don't have any "news" to report.

Because, internally, all our organs are at the same pressure.
For example. When you swim a few feet under water, the pressure of the water is much higher than the air pressure inside you and you can really feel the difference.

(76 cmHg represents an air pressure of 14.7 pounds acting on each square inch of your body and everything in and around it at sea level).

The force on a surface due to atmospheric pressure equals the pressure (14.7 psig) times and area or 14.7 pounds per square inch of surface. However it takes an unbalanced force (pressure) to cause motion. Because air pressure acts on both sides of our body the forces cancel and we don't notice it. If we were projected into a vacuum chamber our internal pressure would try to expand us (and our blood would boil). We can feel the pressure from an air hose or the tip of a vacuum cleaner because they subject our skin to an unbalanced pressure (force).

While recording blood pressure a cuff of appropriate size is fitted and inflated manually by repeatedly squeezing a rubber bulb until the artery is completely occluded.

If one has experienced this, he can feel what happenes if the exernal presssur is increased or decreased.

The blood pressure oscillates about the pressure of 76 mm of mercury.

Thus every one can feel the variation of pressure and not the static pressure.

Try scuba diving! You can get down to about THREE atmospheres before you have be too concerned about narcossis exposure. You CAN go below this, but you start needing more specialized equipment that reduces your exposure to N2 - nitrogen gas which becomes deadly at those levels.

On the OTHER hand, you WOULD be able to feel it if you were in a vacuum if you were able to have a few synapses fire before your body explodes due to the exposure to the vacuum.

you do feel it. when in an airplain, you feel a pressure build up in your ears. the same goes when rapidly going up or down in an elevator. There is also a constant pressure on your shoulders, but because this is (virtually) constant you dont notice it.

you especially feel the differences in airpressure. its like going into a hot pool, at first its hot, but then, you get used to the temperature, and it feels nice. then when you get out of the bath its cold. while infact no temperature has changed.

we feel it. but we don't implode because our "inside" exerts an equal pressure and balance the external one. just as a ballon that when contains air has a solid shape and when it's empty is flattened

we are used to bare that pressure.. so we dont feel, that pressure is acting on us. If we go to other places, where there is high or low pressure(like when u go to other planets or space), we can definatelty feel the presence of pressure..

intenal pressure in our body neuteralized it . in addition the pressure of air act over all direction and neuteralized each other.
