He has had only two secretaries of state, a black man and a black woman. The secretary of state is THE top unelected official in the United States. Period. In order of succession, he or she is the FIRST unelected position to rise to the presidency in case of some disaster. While people have elected Bush and Cheney into the top positions. Bush has essentially "elected" Colin Powell and Condi Rice to succeed him.
The secretary of State position is an honored position. Our early Secretaries of State read like a who's who of Founding Fathers: Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, John Quincy Adams, Martin Van Buren and James Buchanan - of course these men all were later elected President.
And the way in which Bush chose these positions was never forced, never treated like, "ooh, check out what I'm doing for black people." It was never treated as if black people were less capable in general and needed help in order to accomplish anything of worth. THAT is doing something for ALL black people - or at least I feel it is.
To me, one of the most insulting things about the way blacks are often treated by the government is the patronizing attitude that seems to say, "we know that the only way you can have the success that white people have is for us to give it to you."
Success and respect are two things that are meaningful only when they are earned. The NAACP should recognize this and not play into the old patronizing and insulting "mommying" of the government, basically enslaving themselves to "the system". Tragically ironic.

How many black conservatives do you know that aren't on TV? Because when I watched their last two conventions you could pretty much count them on the fingers of one hand. I don't know any black conservatives attacked by white leftists except verbally, and frankly public discourse being what it is, that is the point isn't it? To incite to anger. Cain screwed himself up, it wasn't Democrats who asked him to leave the primaries, it was Republicans. The majority of black people aren't Republicans, and the NAACP probably feels the same way the majority does. They have a point of view and its no more friendly to the right than the right is to the left.

The NAACP has done a lot of good to help in the advancement of people of color and they believe the Democratic party is more in step with the way people of color
believe. But I myself do not believe most black people are in favor of same sex marriages and are in general just as conserative as people of other races. The NAACP even backs Senator Byrd from West Virginia who was put into office by the KKK and is the only senator still in office who voted no on the civil rights bill in 1964 which the Democratic Party proposed. Oh I"m sure he's sorry today, fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame om me.
My family was Democrates until after JFK was elected the party went way to liberal and being of religious background
we changed parties and went with the more conserative Republic party. I don't agree with Bush on everything but you
have to admit he says what he means and means what he
says. But I still vote on the person not the party when I vote.
I was against the war in Iraq from the beginning but I support our troops and believe they will get the job done. The
Democratic party under LBJ lied to the American people about a made up torpedo attack on the U.S. Maddox and sent troops to Vietnam do some research on it and you'll
see how many young men of all colors were killed and maned because of that one little lie. And I believe if you were
to check around just as high of percentage of black families
will be in church come sunday as any other race. So most black people are not as liberal as the NAACP believes.

the NAACP needs to disban. the very essence of its existence is crippling the black community from getting out from under the race card.
my grandfather used to be principle at a rough high school where they sent the inner city kids when they got expelled. he suspended both a white and black girl for fighting. the NAACP came in and tried to build a case against my grandfather but couldn't because they were shot down by the blacks in the community. during the meeting, a debate broke out in which the NAACP was trying to push my grandfather into a corner. one humble, softspoken black man stood up and said, and I quote "Mr. Pieron (my grandfather) has always been fair with us." at which that point the representative from the NAACP told the black man to shut up and sit down.
the NAACP, just like the ACLU, has to have problems in order to justify its existence. If it doesn't have problems, it makes problems because if not, then someone is out of a job.

It always seems as if Republicans have to prove their worthiness to minority groups. It doesn't seem to matter if their "record' says otherwise.
The NAALCP - The"L" standing for Liberal - lost creditability with me a long time ago. They'll support a Jesse Jackson, but will not support a Clarence Thomas. They have communicated in a very clear manner who they support: Liberal democrats.

They hated Reagan too even though in the 1980s black family income rose faster than white family income.
They don't want results, they favor 50s and 60s era solutions because those involved empowering a small group of career activists, putting them on the payroll. They just want to feed the beast.

the NAACP, is just like Sharpton and Jackson, they think they speak for all African Americans.
They are just using forcing their agenda once again.
I would be pissed if I was African American and had all these people pretending to be on my side so they can just use me for their propaganda.

It is a fact that President Bush has more African Americans and other minorities in his administration than ANY previous administration, including President Clinton's. That said, I don't understand what that accusation is based on.

Here's the deal on politics and race in America: Republicans don't need black voters, but they want them. Democrats don't want black voters, but they need them. Blacks have been the Democrats' most loyal voters, typically giving the party upward of 90 percent of their vote. But Democrats ignore blacks.
The Democrats' inspired 11th-hour message to black voters is: Here are your crumbs, your scraps, your measly handouts. Too bad you're so childish, incompetent and dependent, huh? Now run along and cast your vote for the guy with the "D" next to his name and we'll see you in four years, 'K? Buh-bye, now.
With no fanfare, President Bush has placed black stars like Condoleezza Rice and Colin Powell in top positions in his administration. Kerry waited for complaints that the only black people in his campaign were setting up folding chairs at rallies before finding blacks for any prominent positions.
