With today's market both DSL & LD service are commodity based, other words customers are buying on price point only and the providers have cut prices to be competitive. The first cut in a situation like this is personnel and the first to be cut is service, just the facts. Telecomm providers know that cutomers change providers all the time and the main reason is price. For LD, I have used MCI, SBC, ATT, Verizon, and now use ATT VoIP. Always used cable through TimeWarner/now Comcast for broadband, there was no DSL service out here till the last year, but DSL with the land line cost close to what cable was costing me and less banwidth.

I work for a telephone company and I can tell you that I have heard that vonage has some unhappy customers. First you are relying on whatever mode of high speed internet that you have. If it goes down you lose phone service. In other words the infrastructure is not as dependable. The 2nd thing I have heard of is billing issues. Lastly you get what you pay for/ if an offer sounds to good to be true it probably is.

You didn't tell us what city / country you live in, so it's pretty hard to provide specifics.

With any luck you may find a local ISP, by geographical region, here:

If not, please re-post with more details.
