Me and my gf recently thought about buying an Xbox360 for some 2 player competition / cooperative play. My girlfriend lives in my house, not on the otherside of the globe, and secondly, we still want to see each other occasionally - so online and one player games aren't really the solution.
I haven't really seen many 2-player 'offline' games around - can anyone offer some advice / mention some good 2-player games?

Hi first off if you both want to play XBOX LIVE then you will need 2 of them to be able to team up and play multiplayer games.. You can play with just 1 but it will split the screen and if you plan on having an account with "live " only 1 will be able to play at a time.. Guitar hero is ok but I personally find it rather cheesy if you play guitar you will too.. Thee are games you can play that are demos but really to get the full "live " effect you will want to get 2 consoles and 2 accounts and then you can get the games you both like and play together or compete against eachother and others online.. My sons both have a console in thier rooms and all I hear is them yelling into the microphone to eachother.. they play shadowrun, gears of war socom and some other games.. Hope this helped you ...

There are a lot of great two player coop/vs games out for the 360. First that comes to mind is gears of war (first person shooter with great co-op) second is burnout (great 2-player and head to head racing game that is really easy to catch on to) third I'd say would be fuzion frenzy (its a bunch of mini games that can be fun to play with groups) fourth I'd say Dead or alive 5 (easy to learn fighing game).
Here are some more good ones I've heard of but haven't personally played: Rockstar Table Tennis, Soulcalibur 4 (fighting), Virtua Tennis 3, Amped 3 (snowboarding)
Hope that helps, I play burnout the most with my gf, its the easiest game to catch onto for her and its a lot of fun, (I give her better cars than I have to the races are actually a challenge!)

Guitar hero 2 with two guitars would be a good idea and it would probably also be worth checking some of the games you can download through Xbox live.

even tho i'd say get a 360 cos there great me and my girl bought a wii there's alot more co op games on there for u both to enjoy and its cheaper then a 360,plus some games can be abit tricky to set up for 2 players on a 360

gears of war has a co-op mode, as will halo 3
in fact, i think many of the shooters do now
i had fun with dead or alive 4 too
