I've knocked my little toe and part of the nail has come loose - would it be best to leave it, try to remove it, or get it seen to by a professional?

get it seen by a professional. sometimes if you pull it off it will never grow back. and other times it just keeps growing but is black at first(the bruised nail turns black). i wouldn't take the chance of loosing my nail though.

I know that feeling too well. I done the same thing a few years ago only I tore the nail clean off my big toe plus the one beside it and part of the nail bed as well.OUCH!!!! The nail never grew back right afterwards. Maybe the professionals should have a look in case the nail bed is damaged as well. I went to no one and I am suffering ever since.

Kirsty, I did the same thing, I saw a professional. It could get infected. The Doc took my toe nail off, it grew back better than before.

Get a cushion or pillow, bite into it and pull the nail off really quickly, after the initial agony and screaming into a pillow clean the toe and eat a nice large bar of chocolate to make yourself feel better.

If it's very low down the nail, I'd leave it (and if you're in a lot of pain then see a foot doctor). If it's not very loose, I'd leave it, and if it is and you feel confident you won't do anymore damage, remove it yourself with care.

Ouch. I've been there! I lost half my toe nail. I never thought it would grow back, but it did. I cut it and wrapped it for a few days until it was less raw...

Go to a professional. It might get infected if left alone, or you try to remove it.

Wrap it carefully for one day and if the pain continues go see a pro, or a neighbor or friend who's a nurse.
