It really depends on which Venus shows up at the U.S. Open. Venus has been so up and down for the last bunch of years. If she plays liek she did at Wimbledon then I wouldn't bet against her. Many say that she is less of a threat on harcourt than some of th eother players, but she did win the U.S. Open twice. Plus, she was initially better at the U.S. Open than she was at Wimbledon. On her first try she made it to the U.S. Open finals. Plus, in eight tries she has made it at keast to the quarter finals seven times and she has made it to at least the semis six times. You can never count her out of that tournament. It all depends on her level of play. I think her biggest competition will be Justine Henin, Serena Williams, and maybe Maria Sharapova. Her chances are actually not that bad. Maria has not played very well against either Williams sister this year and has had alot of trouble really establishing her game. Justine is always dangerous. Serena could also be a huge threat is she gets herself healthy. If Venus gets her confidence up and can play like she did at Wimbledon than she has a great chance.

I think Venus "could" win the US Open but she probably won't win it. Venus is IMHO the best grasscourt player in the world (and has been for several years) which is why she is a threat to win Wimbledon no matter who she goes up against. Her powerful serve, flat powerful strokes, early return, ease of movement, large wingspan, strong volley and athletic reach, all give her a distinct advantage on grass. But on a hardcourt some of those abilities are neutralized by the higher bounce and slower speed. There are many better players than Venus on a hardcourt nowadays than their was back in 2000-2001 when she was winning those events.

Serena Williams and Justine Henin are both better than Venus on a hardcourt. Also Maria Sharapova, Nichole Vaidasova, Jelena Jankovic, Anna Ivanovic & Amelie Mauresmo can match Venus on any given day on hardcourts. So it would be much more difficult for her to win the US Open again (although certainly possible if she gets a good draw and only has to face maybe 1 or 2 of those mentioned). But if it comes down to Venus vs. Serena or Henin at the US Open, then Venus looses that match (unless one of them is injured). With the other girls it's about a 50/50 toss-up.

I am a fan of Venus, but I will say no. Venus is tough on grass because her style of play suits the fast lawns so much better than the slower hard courts. Her second serve is her biggest weakness, and on grass, the ball tends to skid, so opponents have a tougher time hitting winners or solid returns off of it. On the hard courts of Flushing Meadows, Venus's second will sit up more and is prone to attack. When opponent's begin to jump on her second serve, Venus's entire game seems to fall apart as the match progresses. Most noticeably, her forehand, which she tends to overhit on.

I feel Sharapova, Ivanovic, Henin, and Vaidaisova are in the running for the U.S. Open title. Venus and Serena are always a threat, even if they are injured or have had a little to no preparation.

No see Venus is more of a grass player!!! She can play on all courts but i don;t think she'll win because all those top 10 players are getting healthy at the moment including her sister!!!

If she is healthy she could be a contender but Serena and Justine are better on hard court than she is. She seems to be excited about winning again and I am sure she will be trying to get two this year.

I don't think so. But with women's tennis, who really knows, right?

Justine, Serena, Amelie, even Ana are strong contenders.
