I'm working on a VSM at the company I work for, and I can't figure something out. We have multiple suppliers for one product (around 13) and the materials they supply are needed in different steps of the production process. Do I then need to map all of these 13 suppliers to the left side of the map (making it quite a mess with all the product flows), or can I just map them under the production process, where the materials are needed? I dunno what best practice is here... Good advice will (naturally) be awared with a best answer! Thank you in advance!

To keep the map simple, use the 80/20 rule. From your list of 13, pick the top 2-3 suppliers (by either criticality or dollar volume) and only show those on the map. Put them on the left side of the map, where suppliers belong.
