If the Yankees do want to pay top cash for a leadoff guy, Ichiro is the best one in the game.
Somebody's going to pay for his services, and they're going to pay top dollar, even if he returns to Seattle. I hope he stays with the Mariners, since I like the team and I like the idea of him sticking with them as the marquee player. However, from the point of view of a GM of another team (Yankees or someone else), I'd seriously consider pursuing him if there was money to spare.
Even if you don't like the Yankees, it seems hard to imagine that Ichiro would sign anywhere for a low paycheck. Perhaps he'd do best against American League pitching, so I'd probably try even harder to sign him if I were the GM of an AL team.
Nothing against home-grown talent, though. People always whine that the Yankees buy tons of players, but there's a few other teams that follow suit, such as the Red Sox. In recent years, the Yankees farm system has brought in Cano, Cabrera, and Wang, not to mention veterans like Jeter, Posada, and Pettitte. Home-grown talent certainly can save money and bring in good prospects that eventually become stars.

Yes, this is one move that makes sense. I am not big on signing free agents any more, but the Yankees have to try to sign Ichiro. First, Damon is done as an outfielder, and they need some speed at the top of the order. Ichiro is 34, but he doesn't seem to be slowing down yet, and should have a few good years left.
Another big reason is that the Yankees do not have any outfielders down in the minors who are ready. They have lots of young pitchers coming up, but no position players. Their top prospects Phil Hughes a pitcher, a Jose Tabata an outfielder, but he is still in A-Ball and won't be ready for a couple of years.
Yes, sign Ichiro, put him in right where he prefers it, then keep Melky in center. Two great defensive outfielders with great arms.

He looks up and sees Miss Red Sox and asks How do you really feel?
I would hope that the Yankees show restraint and don't do the obvious and throw 100+ miilion at Ichiro. I would hope that they would go back to the formula that worked for them in the 90's of bringing up Minor leaguers. Our Minor league teams are stacked and will help for years if we don't traded them away.

I think it would be in their best interest to. He is used to being under constant spotlight so I don't think he'd drop the ball under the pressure. Him and Godzilla would be neat to see in the Outfield too.
The Yankees main concern should be building back their farm. After years of success they haven't had a chance to get a no miss prospect and they are constantly trading talet in midseason deals (Bobby for bust) instead of stalking.
But back to the point, on word answer: Yes.

I don't see them resigning A-Rod and signing Ichiro on top of that.
If they were to sign both they would have to unload Damon, Giambi, and possibly one other player.
I also think the Mariners fans are feed up with losing their superstars. Within a few years of each other at one point they lost Randy Johnson, Griffey Jr., and A-Rod.
The Mariners must at least put up a fight to keep Ichiro.

After the Yankees have been given swept with the help of the purple Sox, i did no longer think of they deserved the stunning to bypass into an over-hyped sequence with the Mets and weigh down them. yet, 2 wins is two wins, so we are going to take them. as properly, the sequence wasn't somewhat a similar besides, with Beltran, Reyes, and Delgado out of the lineup for the Mets. Regardless, they might have been intense scoring video games with the main suitable lineup in baseball (Yankees) against an ok Mets lineup.

That's just the problem: the Yankees keep "Dropping the bank" as you say, on deals that simply don't work in a Yankee uniform. But no, I don't think Ichiro will help the Yanks.

Personally, I'd much rather see them call up a minor leaguer. someone who has potentional to have the team built around in the future. our whole team is veterans with the exception of cano, cabrera and i guess now phillips. i think bringing up a young guy is what we need. we need someone who will be the yankees for a long time, not just a couple of years.
