My brother is 34 years old, he is married with 2 kids. He used to live at his inlaws with his wife, but now he stays at our house, because he had an argument with his wife..He is self employed, a plumber, he is good at his job, but he cant seem to handle cash. He doesn;t give his kids or his wife money. He has a drinking problem. I tried taking him to hypnotherapy, but he went 3 times and stopped. I need to help him, but how can i when he wont take help? Please advise as this could ruin his marriage.

You are sweet to care and want to help your brother. But you can't help someone who doesn't want to help themselves. Unfortunately, it may take hitting bottom, and losing everything before he'll realize that he has ruined his life, and lost his family.

All you can do is try to talk to him, if he seems to be in a receptive, listening mood. And be there for him once he decides that he does need help.

Do you really want to help him? Don't let him sponge off you. You probably let him stay with you rent free, so make some requirements for him to still live with you. Tell him that he needs to spend time with his family at least twice a week. That he needs to help them out, and give you an X amount of dollars for staying with you. With less money in his pocket, he won't spend it so much on alcohol. And if he baulks at the idea, tell him that he can get his own place.

hide his alcohol and then drop him off in the supermarket with 10 dollars and a shopping list. it should teach him how to handle money & stop drinking

There is realy nothing you can do. Your brother is a drunk and until he wants to make a change in his life he will be in the same situation he is in now.

You need to go to a AA meeting...to understand...you can't help them...they have to want to help themselves. All you can do is be there to give them support for good choices they make in their recovery.

take finance classes with him.

If he doesn't want to help himself, why should you try?
