My breasts became sore, the whole thing. I imagine it varies from person to person, but mine grew to a ridiculous size and were so tender I couldn't stand to be hugged during the first half of the pregnancy. After that, I was fine.

Both the whole breasts and the nipples.
During early pregnancy, hormonal changes cause increased blood flow and changes in the breast tissue, which may cause the breasts to feel swollen, sore, tingly, and unusually sensitive to touch. The breasts also may feel itchy as the skin stretches, and you may even develop stretch marks on them.
You may be able to see veins under the skin of the breasts, and you may find that your nipples are getting bigger and darker. After a fewmonths, the areolas, the pigmented circles around the nipples, willalso be bigger and darker. Little bumps on the areolas may also be noticed. These bumps are a type of oil-producing gland called Montgomery's tubercles that become more pronounced.
Breasts go through these changes in preparation for nursing a baby.

Mine started with just the nipples and then radiated out. Eventually the soreness went away after the beginning of the 2nd trimester, and now as they are filling up some at 39 weeks they are sore again.
