hi.

with routers its really simple, make sure your computers are cabled to the router (if the computer has wireless card and the router is wireless enabled, then u dont need cables).

once thats done, it would automatically assign your mac with an ip address, once you get that (something like 192.168.x.x). you can check this by going into

(for os9)
click apple
go to control panel
then tcp/ip
then from the first drop down list, click on Ethernet
get the router's ip address from there (make sure you have one, if you dont or if its blank then your router is not connected to the computer or the cables are a problem).

open browser (mozilla, safari or ie) and type in the router's ip address in there and press go or enter. you would then get the router's configuration pages, log in and change settings - you could call your isp and they will talk you throught it, or sort it out yourself or give us your router's brand and model and we will help you with that.

otherwise, its just as simple.

cheers.

Get an ethernet cable, find the ethernet connection on your power book and install one end of the cable to it and the other end to one of the outputs on your router. As for the wireless signals open networks are a security problem unless you use a software firewall like Zone Alarm the free version, because XP firewall is not as good. All you need is a strong signal on any open network and permission to use the network otherwise you are stealing the signal. Select the network an select connect.
