Is there a program or something that shows me what my city was before all of these buildings came along?

You could go to the planning and zoning department and look at plat maps.

Visit the county historical society and look at old pictures.

You may find a lot at your public library. Look at local histories and archived newspapers [which may now be on microfilm.]

You can probably go to rootsweb.com, ancestry.com or genealogy.com and find sites which reflect your historical community. Also, contact your chamber of commerce and there is a very good possibility that they have photos of the old community. You may contact them via the internet (just enter the name of your city / chamber of commerce). They may even mail you a "free brochure" of the old community.
