Like just now, I start up my PC, and they both work fine. Yesterday (and a couple of times in the last few days), it's like they don't exist. They won't open, and Windows Explorer doesn't see them. A re-boot makes no difference.

Ignore those who say it is drivers !!

It is very likely to be that the main PC power supply is either not man enough or is failing. We often see this just after a customer has added another bit of hardware such as a Graphics card or extra Hard Drive etc.

A heavy duty power supply is not expensive and always a good upgrade idea.

Also, installing iTunes has been known to cause this - if you need details on this mail me on ghost123uk@yahoo.co.uk

Most likely one of two things:

A loose connection (the cable which connects your motherboard to your optical drives or the power cable which is connected into the back of the drive itself)

Or the above cables are faulty in some way.

You'd be surprised that just "pressing" the power button on your PC case is enough, after time, to slowly loosen connections due to the constant "knock" it has on the components inside.

I'd recommend opening up your PC and firmly, but carefully pushing the connecting cables from both your motherboard and optical drives into their slots.

This will probably solve your problem!

Otherwise, it could be one of many different problems.

Either your controller built into your motherboard is going out or your drives are going out.

Make sure all of your cables are all the way on and none of the connector pins are bent.
