Is it possible to use it as a webcam on MSN messenger?
i know you can have video conversations with Apple's iChat AV but you need a .mac account.

yes you can because i have a macbook and ppl can see me and with yahoo messenger to. it is first and formost a webcam then its a camera.

The simple answer is No, MSN IM doesn't support Apple hardware.
Maybe that's because they are competitors.
Check out Skype VoIP, it supports chat video on both Windows and Mac. It's the only app that worked for me.

I'm not sure about MSN, but you can also use iChat with an AIM account, not just a .mac account.
