On the 1988-91 CRX, the DX and HF have the same 1.5 litre 16 valve 4 cylinder engine. The HF model is tuned for higher fuel economy so there are differences like the manifolds, the timing and slight changes to the fuel system. Also, the HF has less equipment so it is lighter. Also, the DX has 92 hp while I believe the HF has around 75 hp. The 1.6 liter engine mentioned earlier is in the Si.
1984-1987 HFs had a 1.3 liter engine while the '84-'87 DX had a 1.5 liter engine. Both of these engines were carbureted. The 1985-87 CRX Si had the DX's 1.5 engine but with fuel injection.

the HF was the "high fuel" efficiency model, 1.5L motor, MPFI, really long gears, and very little HP. didn't even come with the rear cargo cover stuff. some had A/C but running it was like throwing an anchor out. it also had a bunch of different parts that were lighter; the front and rear bumper supports are thinner, the carpet has less padding, the wheels are smaller... the DX was the standard car. 1.5L motor, DPI, normal gears, moderate HP. the Si was the sports model. 1.6L motor, MPFI, normal gears, higher HP. the Si had a better interior, and the structure of the car is a little stouter to make up for the hole in the roof.
