Tell him or her now. That way if anything happens you are covered.

Congratulations on your news. I am sure telling your boss would all depend if you do a lot of heavy lifting, etc. in your work that could jeopardize your pregnancy. If so, tell him as soon as possible - your baby's safety is paramount. Most women don't tend to announce their pregnancy until they have reached the point where they are less likely to miscarry and have had their dating and nuchal scans at around 11 - 14 weeks. However, if you find you have a lot of morning sickness and it starts to affect your performance at work I would tell him.
The law gives special protection to pregnant women at work. You have rights to paid time off for ante-natal care, statutory maternity leave, and may get maternity pay or a maternity allowance. You are also protected against unfair treatment.
Check out the following link: www.emmasdiary.co.uk - it will answer all your pregnancy questions, give you a week by week account of how the baby is developing and also provide you with plenty of links regarding your maternity rights.

Wait until you have had your first scan and you get past the critical point at 12 weeks, often you can miscarry before then after 12 weeks the general opinion is that the foetus will be deemed viable and your very likely to go full term, before 12 weeks, your considered at risk of miscarrying, until your first Scan, you wont know where you stand.
Your being a bit premature.

Are you full-time or part-time?
Does your employer supply insurance?
If so, I'd tell them soon, definitely before the end of the first trimester. They'll have maternity leave policies, and a lot of insurance policies require you to "pre-register" with the insurance or your birth claims will be paid at a reduced rate, (if at all...)
Even if your position is just part-time, you need to get this out in to the open. You want to be asked to lift heavy things, climb ladders or stand up for hours at a time? Letting them know will help you secure working conditions that will be to your benefit...

personally, I would wait until after 12 week mark. Gives you time to get used to the idea of being pregnant and boss time to think about your replacement during pregnancy leave. If you start to feel a bit sickly before the 12 week mark, tell boss the reason. Better to be upfront (no pun intended) Good luck MUM

Legally you do not have to tell the boss at all, they can just guess you are when your belly starts to grow, but if you are planning on taking maternity leave you need to tell them at least 10 weeks prior to your intended last day of work. It may be better to tell them from the start as they may be able to assign you more appropriate tasks, depending on th type of work you do. I am 2 1/2 months pregnant and plan to tell my boss at 3 months so i can arrange to have days of for appointments. Congrats on the pregnancy, Good Luck!!

I told my direct line manager the day I found out, purely because my job involved lifting heavy coin bags, tills, box files, etc and I wanted to make sure that I protected my baby the best I could. I did request that only my immediate colleagues knew until I had passed my 12 weeks.

I wouldn't tell your employer until after at least 12-14 weeks. I plan on not telling my employer until I find it absolutely neccessary, like if they make me do something that I can't do or if they comment i used the restroom too much. Or I can't do my job as well as normal. Congratulations by the way!

Hi, congratulations!
I told my boss when I was 10 weeks, I wanted to be protected asap since my employer was doing organisational changes. I don't know what the law is like in your country? I'm from Belgium, so it mught be different...

I would wait until you're 12 weeks. The risk of miscarriage is much lower after that point. That's when I told my employer.

as soon as possible and make sure its in writing.
This is to cover you and then if you get bad sickness and have to take time off from work due to pregnancy reasons they cannot put it on your sick record and you cant get any warnings etc.
Plus its good that someone is in the know incase something happens in work, not that it will, but at least you'll have support for any eventuality throughout your pregnancy.
Best of luck and congrats :)
