An MVP is supposed to be someone that a team really couldn't do without.

If you didn't have Jeter on the Yankees, what would happen?
They would move Rodriguez to short (upgrading the defense in the process) and buy another 3B.
Essentially, there wouldn't be much difference. In that respect Jeter didn't make much difference.

Morneau was the only power threat on the Twins and if you got rid of him, you would have had Rondell White batting clean-up.

First of all there's more to winning the MVP than just home runs and rbi's.

Now let's look at this from a realistic perspective.

1. Justin Morneau wasn't even the MVP of his own team.
Johan Santana was.

2. Justin Morneau batted 4th and 5th in the Twins
lineup last year which obviously gave him more rbi opportunities than Jeter who batted second in the Yankees lineup. Driving in 97 runs batting second is not bad.

3. Derek Jeter won gold glove last year for ss. His third in a row. Justin Morneau has not won one.

4. Derek Jeter was baseball most clutch hitter last year hands down. Justin Morneau went on a hot streak during the Twins 23-1 run last year.

5. Jeter stole 34 bases Morneau stole zero.

6. Derek Jeter batted .344. Morneau batted .321.
Jeter had 214 hits. Morneau had 190 hits.

So ask yourself without being bias was Jeter's 34 steals, gold glove, season long clutch hitting, 21 point higher batting average, and 24 more hits more valuable than Morneau's 20 hr's and 33 rbi's? Keep in mind Jeter bats 2nd and Morneau bats clean up.

I think it's fair to say that there was a huge mistake made here and hopefully baseball writers will not continue to make mistakes in the future.

Jeter was the MVP last year and he knows it and that's good enough.

You apparently don't understand anything about baseball.

For one thing, Jeter's not a power hitter. He's a contact hitter. Jeter's a man who collects 200 hits every year, plays like hell and makes spectacular defensive plays.

Number two, Jeter hit 97 RBI from the TWO-HOLE. Do you realize how difficult that is? Morneau bats clean-up, and had JOE MAUER batting in front of him. He could have anywhere from 1-3 guys on base (Morneau) when he came up to bat. Jeter could only have 1. His job wasn't to produce RBI, it was to get on base.

Thirdly, if Morneau was REALLY MVP, explain why Jeter had a much higher average with runners in scoring position, or in close and late situations? Because Jeter is CLUTCH in those situations, Morneau is not.

There, try arguing against ANY of that pal, let's see how far you get.

I'm a big Yankee fan and I'll say that Jeter wasn't robbed last year. If he had won the batting title that would have been another story but he finished in back of Mauer. Morneau was certainly more valuable to the Twins.

Jeter definetly WASN'T robbed last year. Morneau is just a better player and a better hitter. Considering I'm a huge Twins fan, I'll be the first to tell you that Morneau is one of the best, but I think he already made that clear by winning MVP.
GO TWINS! and.. GO MORNEAU (homerun derby)!!

Jeter is a media darling so it is no surprise that people said that. NY players usually get more pub and end up being MVP even if they don't necessarily deserve it.

Morneau deserved to be the MVP last season. Enough said.
