They say gays can already marry a person of the opposite sex so gay marriage would be a special right...
BUT NO!... IT WOULDN'T BE A SPECIAL RIGHT.
Straight people would equally be able to marry a member of the same sex if they wanted...I imagine straight people would be as keen to enter into a same-sex marriage as gay people are to enter into an oposite-sex marriage.

they say it because they'll say anything to stop gay unions from being recognized by the secular authorities of the country/state.
personally, i dont want a religious marriage, i wont force a religion to change its ways for me, i'll just not practice it.

They say it would be a special right as an extension of their narrow-minded belief that marriage is only about making babies. The argument fits in perfectly with the belief that there should be only one way to live your life.
To make their arguments stand up to a bit of scrutiny, they narrow all of their definitions. ie: People must not be born homosexual simply because that is not the way we're supposed to be. However, the best arguments crumble when supported with such ridiculous assertions. You have already pointed out a huge double standard in their "special right" argument. If you can answer the question of why they would employ that double standard, then the answer to your question should be obvious.
Adam and Eve aren't even allowed to have belly buttons because it would topple someone's belief structure.

They don't really. It's just that they themselves claim the special right to decide who is entitled to basic human rights.
Marriage is about a lot more than sex. It's about job benefits, combining and passing along property. And, most importantly providing a stable environment in which to raise kids.
I guess the "Christians," (They aren't really,) who get all bent out of shape about Gay marriage are too obsessed with sex to see that.

It's simple, really. Because some people would say anything in order to not go through the process of actually thinking anything through. They will come up with the stupidest excuses in order to not have to deal with a plain and simple fact: that everyone should have the same rights.

Those who think only of religion, blaming "sin" just show their bigotry towards those of faith.
"SPECIAL RIGHT"? That's like saying that the poor get special rights because they pay lower taxes than other people, or they get welfare benefits and no one else does.
There is nothing stopping a gay person getting married. Disney will do it for a small price. Nothing stops a gay couple from sharing property, bank accounts, writing wills, living wills, or any other legal document.

Because, if they can persuade enough people that it's a 'special' right, they can argue against extending 'special rights' to 'sinners' and 'perverts', with a high chance that people will agree with that.
If society accepts that it's not a 'special' right, but a 'basic' one, their argument doesn't stand up.
