I'm told the company is laid back and the position I'm applying for is quite junior but I've read somewhere it's always best to look smart. However I don't want to appear over-dressed and look like I won't fit in.

I think you should bring one. It's always better to appear proffesional, especially if it is an office environment. Wear one, and if it's really bad, you can always take it off.

If the company is laid back then no you don't have to wear a tie if you don't want to, ff they're laid back right? so you can still look persentable and laid back at the same time; something fresh is always a good idea. Try wearing a good pair of jeans(or if you prefer dress pants are fine aswell) with a nice fitted blazer, a good pair of sneakers(if you were to wear jeans otherwise dress shoes for the dress pants) will go great and a dress shirt would be best. Hope that helped you!!! :)

I would definitely wear a tie and come to the interview looking as professional as you can. Your appearance can make or break you in some cases. I have seen people show up in T Shirts and POLOs and lose their opportunity for employment because they looked unprofessional.
I understand the company is laid back but I don't think they would ever deny you a position because you looked too good for the job interview.
Good luck!

Well, wearing a tie doesn't mean being over-dressed.

If you were applying for a white-collar job, it is one of the main rules to wear a tie, but if you were applying to a blue-collar job, you have the choice.

If you think that you'll be over-dressed (which is not the fact), wear the simplest suit you find, and an important thing you must care for here; that is you must wear either blue or gray suit.

You will never go wrong in wearing a tie. Take my word for it. And when you do land the job take it from there and see what the peers are wearing. Short hair is also an asset and when being interviewed, don't cross your legs and don't cross your arms at your chest.

ahm..it really depends on ya..of course.. try 2 look at what they wear..are they 2 glamorous and fabulous?..or they are just simple and contemporary and somewhat moderate?/...dont exagerate on what you wear//. be who you are..bocz actually...what you wear doesnt really count at all..I tell you..its all with your bio data, your resume actually, how your interview was and how you could hndle the job they're about 2 give you..do your best..God would be there to finish the rest!..you can do it..wear a good formal attire that you like so much..dress neatly..smell good..comb your hair nicely..and stand out!...you could do it!.

Good luck!
just have proper manners

i don't think so... If everyone who goes to an interview has to wear a tie, that would certainly bored the employer.... hahaha. There must be some outfit that doesn't need a tie to look tidy, right?

don't look too stuffy. they will judge you more by your qualifications than whether you wear a tie or not. if you're not going to wear a tie then you should wear a blazer. a button down with a blazer is business casual but not too stuffy.

Just be yourself, but you must also look neat and clean in front of other.... Because a lot of people judge people FIRST from their appearance....

It's not required, but i wouldn't say it would be neccessary. But you still want to look your best.
