why is it that first we love someone to bits but later it can all just fly out the window?

I don't really need one though... I've got a lady friend in a partnership with kids who wants out... she's too uncomfortable to ask all this... so I ask. I am however not married ór in a relationship. I don't even have a bf at the mo... but I did wonder about all this, because they are such tough issues and I didn't know the answers either. :-) Thanks all for answering... getting lots of perspectives on this.
