The Wizard of Oz is and will always be a classic. And classics should be left alone. Movie makers shouldn't do remakes of classics. But if they eventually remake The Wizard of Oz, here's who I think should play the parts:
Dorothy: Jennifer Garner
Scarecrow: Jim Carey
Tin Man: Steve Carrel
Cowardly Lion: Will Ferrel
Glenda: Julia Roberts
Wicked Witch: Uma Therman
The Wizard: Anthony Hopkins
The people set up for these characters are not real. I made them up. So don't start any rumors. Anyway, tell me what you think of the cast.

Cool ... Jennifer Garner might be a little old, but I think she's a good enough actor to where she'd pull off the whole Dorothy as a little girl part. Jim Carey? Perfect! If he couldn't do it, though, I think an amazing alternative would be either Marlon Wayans or Ashton Kutcher. And, if Julia Roberts and/or Uma Thurman aren't available, Kelly Hu could play Glenda, and Lucy Liu would be great as the Wicked Witch!

I did some casiting assistant work, which means (in indie films) sometimes, finding the right people and then letting the casting director bring them into readings or negotiations, for the director or producer to decide.
Thats a pretty good cast, seems like you either thought about it for awhile, or you're a natural.
Now good luck negotiating top billing, pay, scheduleing, accomodations, who gets the 2 inch bigger trailer on set.
But really, if you could reign in Ferrel and Carey so it doesn't go too over the top goofy, (and they can control themselves with the right directors and writers) Carrel just needs a decent script to stay on point. Julia worries me a little, but it's a small part, and she's a big box office draw. Love Uma for Wicked.
Garner might be good, some people dislike her a little now, and I think she could be *sad to say) but - too old for Dorothy. Maybe a talented unknown that cant miss. Or someone young and fairly new but reputable, no Mickey Club rehab brats. Someone like Bryce-Dallas Howard, ( who showed she could look pretty darn good too in Spidey3) plus she can act, and no one has any tabloid crap on her.
Dorothy has to be pure and unblemished, at least until you find out about her really screwed up life years down that Yellow Brick Road.
Carey,Carrel,Ferrel - I never noticed how similar these names were till just now. Like they're clones or alien pod-comics

Dude forget remaking Wizard of Oz...I'm still trying to figure out what was going on in The Return to Oz. That was one crazy film; I would imagine it is comparable to an acid trip.
And I have to agree Garner is way too old for that role. And good call on the Johnny Depp as the Wiz

p.s. After posting, read others' responses. I'd make Dorothy younger... I actually thought of Anne Hathaway before I got to that post, so I agree on that. In the books, Dorothy was *five*, so I was never sold on Judy Garland so much in the first place. A kid, a kid!!!

Expensive.
I've never seen The Wizard of Oz all the way through, but I would consider it highly if this cast was given the task of recreating it.

that would be cool to see! but then again why would anyone want to remake a classic movie, its a lot to live up to . I dont know if anyone will see it, because when the Wizard of Oz came out, it was a bomb shell. nobody went to see it! so the lion would probably be , uhmm someone jolly & fat . . . hmmm..

I like everyone on your list except dorothy. For some reason, I just don't see Jennifer Garner as dorothy. In fact, I have no idea who would make a good dorothy.

No,Jennifer Garner would be too old for the part of Dorthy. I think Julia Roberts would make a better Dorthy.
