Everybody knows Kraftwerk here, but even more people know Led Zeppelin. My garden shed has a "Led Zeppelin" spray on the back wall, and it wasn't put there by me.

My impression is that NZ mentality connects very well with Kraftwerk. This is a very high-intensity, brooding, quirk-embracing type of country. We love strong personality and character, stuff that goes against the flow. Kraftwerk certainly has that. And then there's this fascination with German stuff. Students of mine listen to "Einstuerzende Neubauten" and Rammstein nonstop.
Led Zeppelin though had an influence you can still feel today in Kiwi music - maybe it represented the anglophone side of the pensive, high-intensity thing.
