The heart is OURS all the way.
We open it and welcome those we love.
We are... Spring cleaning those who hurt us.

No, I have found that I don't.
I have been married 26 years, have raised three children and am in the process of raising 2 of my grandchildren. I am the one that my friends call when they need something and I am the first to respond. I have gotten in the car, driven 20 minutes north, to pick up a friend and then turned around to drive that friend 1.5 hours south. I don't care about the cost of gas, the time or anything else.
I have had friends and family break my heart but I just keep putting it out there and I always will. It is part of my makeup and I don't think there is any way to change that. Sometimes I tell myself that I won't let myself get hurt again, but I keep doing what I am doing.
It is who I am and I don't think I would have it any other way.

Yes I do , but we must be careful. In Matthew chapter 22 of the Bible, it says "love your neighbor as you love yourself". But this is not a command to love yourself. Of course you should have self-respect and all. And since we do care for our own needs daily, we are not lacking in self-love or self -caring. However, people can tend to "love themselves" too much by putting their needs over the needs of others constantly. We should be caring more for others as much as we can, as well as ourselves. I saved a little poster another teacher gave me a long time ago -which says:
God first
Others second
Me --third.

EXCELLENT QUESTION! Irish!
My mother told me once, after my brief marriage to "Satan" (I was very young 23, he was a bit older 37)
that:
"You should never give your entire heart away to anyone or anything, or you will be forced to earn it back through heartache and strife.....and to always save a part for yourself"
I believe this, and find it to be some of the best advice she ever gave to me; and I adhere to it, to this day.
I protect my heart, as it is special.

Absolutely! I gave my whole heart before & lost love for myself. That relationship didn't work out. Now, with love for me again, I find I can love others for real & the love I receive is real. With that said, it was my family that showed me how to love myself again.

As of recently I wonder if I even have a heart.
And if I did why would I want that rotting thing?

I do for my own protection. It feels much safer to know that if you get your heart broken, at least a little bit remains to start the healing process!

I think that you should. If you can't love yourself then you cannot respect yourself. And if you cannot respect yourself then you cannot demand respect from others. and without that you are not truly capable of feeling.
