I am confused whether the order of a given graph G is just the same as the total number of vertices in a graph.

Yes, it is. From Wikipedia (reference below):

The vertex set of G is usually denoted by V(G), or V when there is no danger of confusion. The order of a graph is the number of its vertices, i.e. |V(G)|.
