Some comparisons the differences are more obvious, for example a Filipino and a Japanese person probably you can tell the difference, but not always. I think it takes experience in seeing many people of specific ethnicities before you can tell the differnce. Most Japanese people can tell if other Asians are Japanese or not, but again that's not always the case. I am not Asian, but have grown up in an area with a huge and diverse Asian community, also I've lived in Hong Kong. I can usually tell if a person is Korean, or Japanese or Thai or whatever, but not always.
Even with white people there's differences - some Eastern Europeans share certain features. You know how you can often tell if a black person is "African" rather than "African-American"? It's because ethnic groups are created when a bunch of people start reproducing with each other, and overtime there are genetic similarities in the people with similar ancestries. This is the same with East Asians.

I grew up in Hawaii, which has a huge Asian population. I can pick the general features of the native peoples. However, it's getting harder to find someone who's 100% of any ethnicity anymore. Adding to the difficulty are beauty practices. Some girls with straight hair curl it, while others with curly hair straighten it. My sister-in-law told me that some Pilipinas even bleach their skin.
From that small photo I am confident in ruling out Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. I'd look in more tropical areas such as Burma, Laos, or the Philippines.

I really wish I could tell the difference, because I don't like to make assumptions when it comes to this. It must get annoying for Asians always being called Chinese...unless you're Chinese. But, if I had to guess by your picture, I'd say Korean. Maybe? Philipino?

the pic is small but you look either vietnamese, filipina, or indonesian. You are too tanned to be japanese, chinese, korean, or taiwanese. And your eyes aren't that slanted.
You pretty much look pacific islander.....
ok maybe even indian
