"Something" by George Harrison which appears on the Beatles album "Abbey Road" It's just so perfect in every way. The greatest solos are the ones which actually fit the song and don't just sound tacked on as an afterthought. This song just wouldn't and couldn't be the same without it. Georges solo has it all ,it's faithful to the songs melody, key and mood. The tone is so beautiful and appropriate and his phrasing and intonation are both perfect. I know I'm gonna be in the minority here...but if you like what I like this is it!

Well, to open a song, how about Guns n Roses, Sweet Child of Mine, Freebird, of course, Layla - Derek & the Dominoes,
Eagles - Hotel California, guitar instrumental - Shazam by Duane Eddy, and how about Black Rose - Thin Lizzy and Parisienne Walkways - Gary Moore, I could go on but that's enough to be thinking about.

Here we go again, best guitar solo's. 70's would go to Led Zepplin's Jimmy Paige " Stairway to Heaven ", 80's Goes to Dokken's George Lynch " Mr. Scary ", 90's goes to Metallica's Kirk Hammett " The Unforgiven " And todays best guitarist is God rest his soul " Dime Bag Darrell ". Somebody needs to step up and play some real licks and chunk some speed in there or rock-n-roll as we know it will die. Thanks to Slash for keeping it alive.

No contest, Cowgirl in the sand, Neil Young. Allthough there's a song called Stop the Bus, by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals that comes close. It's on YouTube if you don't know it.
