Like when he wanted the immigration bill passed and spoke to the country and said...

"Those determined to find fault with this bill will always be able to look at a narrow slice of it and find something they don't like."
"If you want to kill the bill, if you don't want to do what is right for America, you can pick one little aspect out of it."
"You can use it to frighten people."

Wish2Travel: Hey I am with the securing the borders part and knowing everything about the people who want to become U.S. citizens.
I am opposed to the 12-20 Million people who came in illegally to get a pass though!
Especially the ones who are being paid for by the taxpayers in our prisoners!
They should have been sent back to their countries of origin to sit their sentences!!

Of course he does, he doesn't have any logic to back up his policies, so he must try to use emotion to swing people to his side.

This is a classic political move from a smart politician. If you appeal to the masses by nationalism and fear you will scare people into submission by indicating if you don't support him, you are anti-American.. and if you don't support him the terrorists will win.

It is pretty ridiculous, and looks like its been scammed off of a cheap 60's political thriller... but hey.. it's actually working.

Are you insinuating that not letting millions of illegal people flood into our country does nothing to protect it? He uses what pepole can relate to, and the number one issue in America these days, is national security. Have you heard any of the Democrats not talking about national security.. i.e. patriotism, no, because it's on there agenda too. He is right, if you don't want to protect America, and you want to continue to let people into this country w/o any information as to who they are and what there intentions are, then go ahead and vote against the bill and keep knocking Bush. I can only imagine how run over we would be if Gore was president after 9/11. He probably would have held a concert to promote the end of terrorism!

Edit-- Well I completely agree with that, I would have deported every person who wasn't not in this country legally. However, I think Bush is at least taking a step in the right direction. A democrat would surely have wanted to do something like grant citzenship to all of those people and let them flood into the country. I just didn't see where your criticism is based.

straw men seem to be his forte. patriotism is all well and good - something id expect any president to emphasize; its just too bad that many of bush's policies are categorically unAmerican.

That is usually what nixonian fascists do when they want to promote their agenda by slipping things into bills.
