Bush administration exploited the attacks of September the 11Th to change foreign policy and make military advances without prior justifications?

the New American Century (PNAC)

If your answer is yes than my follow up question is. Did the massive propaganda and fear campaign seep into your Psyche enough to condition you into believing that somehow there was a rational and justifiable reason to enter Iraq?

If your answer is no than do you believe that our country is in peril and what can we do?

Disclaimer:

I understand that Saddam did terrible things and he did many with weapons we gave him. I am not saying he was not a bad person. It is just not relevant in this question.

I am not a liberal in fact I am not even close to liberal. I am not anti war and I believe my question is fairly indifferent.

Is it rational and logical to claim that the?
Bush administration exploited the attacks of September the 11Th to change foreign policy and make military advances without prior justifications?

Answer: Yes. Furthermore, there is plenty of evidence that GWB took political advantages out of the tragedy.

If your answer is yes than my follow up question is. Did the massive propaganda and fear campaign seep into your Psyche enough to condition you into believing that somehow there was a rational and justifiable reason to enter Iraq?

No. Iraq did not pose an imminent threat to America.

If your answer is no than do you believe that our country is in peril and what can we do?
Answer: Yes America is in peril, but the dangers spring from the actions of our own government.

Our country is creating enemies everywhere, wasting billions in an unnecessary war, eroding our civil liberties, supporting dictators by the bushel, its insane.

I did not vote for George W. Bush in either election. I believe that he and his brother, Jeb, fraudulently stole the first one from Albert Gore. Beyond that point, I told a Republican friend before the first election,"If you elect him, he will drag us into a war in the Middle East, and the price of gasoline will skyrocket." He said, "You are crazy." Within a year, he switched parties and became a Democrat.

Bush is an oil man. He has production in Yemen, and owns a refinery off the coast. He owes money to the Saudi bank, BCCI. That is why, even though Ben Laden was a Saudi, he did not go after him.

I think we were deliberately attacked and will probably never know all of the details as to why. I think Iran should have been the object of retaliation at the time but for some unknown reason we chose Iraqi oil instead. I think there are a lot of unanswered questions, buy outs and collisions in the whole thing and no one may ever be able to write the true story of corruption and disgust.

I have never labeled myself as anything but, 'open-minded'. Some, might say that qualifies me as a 'liberal' - I am one who believes labels belong on jars and canned goods, etc.
I disdain the war in Iraq. I believe it was initiated under false pretenses, and, I never saw one shred of evidence which indicated Saddam Hussein had anything to do with the planes flying into the twin towers.
This Administration, from my personal perspective, has abused our Constitution; the 'powers' and authority of the office of the President, and the trust of the American People!
Further, I continue to believe we each can provide a basis for argument on either side of the issue. The truth may never be known - at least, not in our lifetime!
For now, we can continue to ask and answer questions, here. We can contact our congressional representatives, and we can speak out about these issues, whenever possible. For future responses - we can use our Constitutional Rights to take action, as is necessary, to change the leadership and direction of our country.

I believe the Bush administration *based* the military advances on the attacks of 9/11. To say "exploited" makes me too sad, but I wouldn't argue it, either.

While I supported (if sadly) our advancement into Afghanistan, I was one of the people protesting Iraq from the start ("how does an attack by Saudis taking orders from a guy based in Afghanistan = Iraq???")

I don't believe our country is in *significant* peril of major attacks, but to believe they can't happen would be naive and an invitation, so we should of course remain guarded. Just not terrified! My greatest concern for our country is the effect the fear campaign has had. I liked us better when our President said things like "We have nothing to fear but fear itself" than "They're coming after your family!" It is corroding our confidence, corroding our liberties, eating us up from the inside. THAT is my concern.

No, the standing policy of Clinton was regime change, Bush merely carried through with it because Clinton didn't have the guts to.

Critically Injured: 1941

This is a world wide count. How ever we got into Iraq doesn't matter any more, the thing is, if we leave now, it really will become a training ground for terrorist. How many more attacks will the world suffer then? Who will stop them? The UN? France? Spain? Mexico? Canada?....

We will see how indifferent you are when we see your best answer.

Yes yes, and stoning disobedient children also actually means you just need to tell them that's not appropriate. The point is, the Bible is not a good guide for present day society. This is in direct conflict with the idea that it the inerrant moral guide for all people of all ages. And once you remove that pillar, the whole structure comes crumbling down.

The entire PNAC concept that the US is a 'sole superpower' is almost laughable.

Both the British and Soviet empires went down pouring blood and money into the sands of the middle east, and it is the most irresponsible act in all of history to take our nation to the very brink of ruin in the same area.

If the US doesn't pull back from this abyss and get on with the business of finding and distributing the energy replacement for fossil fuels in addition to our existing problems of illegal immigration, uneven healthcare, and fading relevance to the rest of the world, we will become a one-century wonder and a footnote to history very, very soon.

And you know what? I'm also not a liberal or even close.

I am a liberal! And my answer is yes! We are in deep, deep doo doo! But the other side would have you believe that the sun is shining, God's in his heaven, and all is right with the world! Completely ignoring the shape its really in! Deficit out of sight! An illegal war that has no end in sight! The economy is in the toilet, and our head of Homeland Security reassures us, that he has a 'gut feeling, they are going to attack us again!
