Apparently the answer I wanted to win DIDN'T win...so here we go again!

What really angers me is that during those world cups ('98 & '06), Kasey Keller was the goalie during the games (except for the final group game in 98 vs. Yugoslavia). The only reason USA did so well in 2002 was because Brad Freidel was the GK and, despite losing to Germany in the quarter finals, look how well we did throught 2002! I can't trust Keller at goal for major games. We lose many many games because of him. Had Tim Howard been at goal in 2006, we WOULD'VE advanced. And to make things worse (something I didn't mention earlier) he's not getting any younger and I really think he needs to retire from the US squad. Who agree that Keller must hang up his gloves for the USA before he jinxes us should he be at goal in 2010?!

He has already considered retirement. Even if he doesnt, it not likely he would even make the cut for backup keeper in 2010. You can blame Keller, Sampson, or Arena but the 2 squads as a whole didnt live up to expectaions in 98 or 06 whatever the reason(s).

to be honest, i really don't remember the 98 or 06 world cup pertaining to the usa

but what i do have to say is that it's not always the goalies fault... unless he messes up the fundamentals like not clearing a ball or dropping it etc., you can only blame the defenders for letting the striker slip through and score.. for example, most people expect all penalty kicks to be scored cause there's not much a goalie can do.. i goalie can try and figure out which way a man's gonna go but that's chance... he really won't be able to save it unless the person kicking the penalty screws up

Simple fact. The United States could have had Gianluigi Buffon in goal and would still have been eliminated. They simply weren't good enough. The team as a whole are average and will continue to qualify for the finals but struggle to get past the first couple of rounds.

Well, that's a bit too tricky Question but i think it was the fault of the US Soccer Association who chose those coaches as well as KASEY KELLER.

My answer was the one that did win this. if you want answers that you like you should have chosen best answers before it went to a vote. and from what i see here many people think you can't blame one player for team USA being eliminated. i agree with Sasan

It's the coach's fault for playing Keller the dufus. He sucks, but ultimately it's the coach's fault for playing him.

They lost in 98 because Iran was too for them and lost in 06 because Ghana was too for them.
