It's really hard to pick only one place, but if I had to I would pick Ticino, the southernmost canton in Switzerland. It is stunningly beautiful and has so much to offer in every sense. It has two gorgeous lakes, Lago di Lugano and Lago Maggiore, and many rivers. It has some Alps, but mostly valleys, one very large one nick named the Riviera. It is surrounded by Italy to the east, west and south and therefore enjoys a distinct Mediterranean climate, different than the rest of the Switzerland.
You can visit the resort towns of Lugano (which sits between Lago Maggiore and Lago di Como, in Italy) and Locarno (the sunniest part of Switzerland), plus many small towns and villages. In addition to all of its natural beauty and the city culture to be found in this region, it is also a very short train ride to many Italian cities, and longer rides to other major European cities, but well worth it IMHO (8 hours to Paris). You can also fly out of Lugano for an even shorter trip. Ticino offers something for everyone: all sorts of outdoor activities, museums, music festivals, spas and hot springs and so much more. It's simply stunning, and a great starting place to check out so many other beautiful spots.
FYI, by train from Lugano to some major European cities:
Milan 1 hr.
Zurich 2:30 hr.
Bern 4 hr.
Rome 5:30 hr.
Geneva 6 hr.
Munich 8 hr.
Paris 8 hr.
Berlin 12 hr.
Happy Trails!

I'd go back to Australia to visit the Great Barrier Reef. It is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. There are no words to describe that sight. It's my favorite place on Earth.
