when its stopped it idles very rough and it died once and i had to turn my car back on, but no lights have come on to say check engine or anything.... 90,000 miles about, what could be wrong and about how much to fix? thanks

okay i live in arizona now so its in the heat.... no ac in the car... originally from east coast and i drove it cross country last year and i havent had any problems with it since i got to az except for the last couple days... when i'm driving it seems fine but only when i come to a stop it starts idling rough and shakin the car

That is odd, It is still practically brand new. Did you check your fluids? It is s a very hot summer , maybe one or two of your necessary fluids are extremely low.
Your mechanic should have checked it on your last oil change.
Engine sputters comealso when you mix your gasoline type., even brand name alone can cause some type of problems.

If it does it all the time I don't know what it is. If it does it just some of the time, spontaneously try replacing the HAL effects sensor on the distributor. I had an earlier ford that played up for six months, I replaced this and that and it seemed to come and go, it was driving me insane. Then an auto electrician fixed it in a hour. He said all fords do it eventually. Worth a try.

You may have a sticking EGR valve, could be built up with some carbon and not seating causing a real lean condition at idle.

you might check to see if you have a built-up sludge in the air intake throat or throttle body-that could cause problems.
