The easiest is they same way you brought them home - in a plastic bag. You might be able to get one from your LFS, or use a double layer of gallon ziplock bags. Only fill the bag about 1/2 way so there's air in the bag as well. The montion of the vehicle as your driving will mkae enough movement that there will be oxygen mixed into the water. I also use an old picnic cooler to keep the temperature more constant.

You don't want to let your gravel or filter media dry out during the move - get a 5 gallon bucket with lid and put in the gravel and enough water to keep it covered. You can put the filter media on the top. This will keep the bacteria that convert the ammonia and nitrite to nitrate alive so you don't have to cycle the tank again.

And you don't want to move the tank filled with water - this is a good way to lose a seal in one of the corners and get a tank that leaks.

There are things out there that explain how to move fish but it sounds intense. I looked into it for our move across country.

If you are only about 3-4 hours away it should be fine but depending on how close you are or kids are to your fish... You may want to just find it a new home and get a new fish along with the new home. Good luck!

If it's a goldfish, I would just get rid of it. First, they're like .59 at the pet store. AND all they do is produce a disgustingly large amount of waste and grow too large.
