I am Srivastava and my wife is a Brahmin. Wondering if we could have a yagyopavit samskara for my son

Your son is Srivastava and according to shashtra, a kayastha.
But since his mother is Brahman, you could perform the sacred thread ceremony of your son. This ceremony is of purificatory type, hence it ought not to meet with any objection.
