I do not think the system is poor rather who has access to the best medical care. As long as big $$$$ is involved and those in power at all levels in the health care, business and government benefit from these big$$$$$ than real change won't happen--because there are too many big wigs that will lose $$$$$, and many people do not want to pay more taxes;although, we are already paying taxes on a lot of things we do not approve of. Furthermore,we are a society of "I" and " me" not "we'" and "us"--which would help US see the light. It is written somewhere that "the poor we will have with us always" but I don't think many people get beyond that phase and think OK so do WE have to care for them because they are poor and do not have access to health care that EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE. Also what is the definition of poor. Does that include someone who works 2-3 low paying jobs and none of their employers offer a health plan that this person can afford, therefore when he/she gets ill they can only access health facilities that provide sh!!y care? Yum, makes you think about it a bit more.

The health care system is excellent for the upper middle class and the upper class.
The ones doing without are the lower middle class and the poor.
The latter has never been a true concern of the government because they pay less taxes and are less likely to be voters.

I pay for my health insurance and have always had excellent care. One hospital closed in our city because of the charity cases and another is averaging $1.3 million in unpaid bills and charity. Medicaid is not paying the bills submitted or cutting back on the amounts. The government medical programs are in place now and are not working so why would anyone want government interfering in everyones life and their health?

I agree with dgey. Our capitalism I'm afraid has bled into how we govern our health care. Coupled with the western medicine mentality of treating the symptoms (which is more profitable than prevention btw) makes for a very poor system indeed. As a result, alternative healing industries have become more popular. Perhaps the answer lies in the market. A very scary thought.

If we don't mind runaway inflation due to socialized medicine, combined with back-breaking taxes, chasing away the rich (job producers and corperations) so that our standard of living drops to that of the other socialist nations of the world, I see no reason not to fix it right now by abandoning all competition for medical companies by giving them a promised and assured income for life through socialized medicine.
What a racket. Charge all you want! The government will pay it!
Doesn't the government just magically produce the money? It couldn't be associated with our raised taxes, could it?

The only way it is poor is when compared to the highly idealized, never to be achieved, socialized dream.
The problem is not, as one person responded, that capitalism is seeping into medicine, but, rather that socialism is creeping into our American way of life and now people expect to get the best service possible without paying for it.

Americans are presumed to have money for their health problems and it is the reason why its government is not concerned so much of the health care system.

Mostly, because the people who can do something about it,
have the best & most complete health care in the world,
thanks to our tax dollars.
I seriously believe, they have no idea what is going on.
If Micheal Moore was Republican, we would have
better luck with them, seeing someone explain it
to them.
Even then, they're so involved with their political social
functions & fund raising, it would surprise me to hear
if they even took the time to see any movie, much less,
a documentary.

the system is poor because it's designed with profit in mind. if money was taken out of medical care, then we'd all be better off... the capitalistic system at work...
