Go for a chain restaurant, scope out the ones where you live if you want big tips. You're also a little more likely to get more weekend time if it's a big chain restaurant as they'll have more people working. The downside to not working weekends is those are your tip days, friday and saturday especially. It also doesn't go over well in an interview that you don't want to work weekends much.

This depends on where you live and what kind of place. When I waitressed part time (33 hrs/wk) it was split shift. I did both lunch and dinner 7 days a week and the tips weren't great. It was a casual BBQ place. I served at a more upscale place but only lunches, and the tips were horrid. I worked at a bar and grill type place and tips were about $120+ on a weekend night.

The kicker is that in those non-chain places, you had to work your way up to getting weekends most of the time because everyone wanted the weekend dinner shift. Here in California it's opposite, every restaurant is constantly advertising for nights and weekend help.

But I agree with some of the others, find a place where they serve booze. Tips are better.

The best tippers are drunk people....I used to love to work on Friday and Saturday night at the mexican restuarant I worked at. I didn't flirt or hit on anyone.....But I like to work the bar area because most of the time they were to drunk to realize what they tipped or if they tipped...I had a table on night with 3 guys they tipped me like 10 dollars a piece then payed with their credit cards and tipped 10 a piece on each credit card.
