Hey Everyone:
I have a training in Oceanside on Tuesday. How long will it take me to get there from College Area? What's best route (805-5) (15-78). I have to be there by 9:00am.

I never work in that area, so I really don't know.......And when does the drive home clear up?

Thanks for the info!

SDSU to Oceanside on a Tues morning will take you a lot more than 20 minutes. I wish!!!

I live in north coastal county and see the northbound traffic every morning as I drive southbound on 5 to 805. Traffic will be very stop-and-go on northbound 805 thru Kearney Mesa, and again northbound 5 north of the merge.

You've got the right idea of taking 8 west to 805 north to 5 north if your training is on the west side of Oceanside. I can't really tell you if there is any huge advantage to going 15 to 78; maybe someone else with knowledge of that route can post here.

I'm not sure where you are going in Oceanside but I think you should give yourself about an hour and 15 minutes total for the trip. Hopefully that'll be enough time. I don't know how long it will take you to get to 805 and Mesa College Dr. from the college area, but it'll probably be about 50 minutes from there to Oceanside.

When does the drive clear up? Pretty unpredictable. Many days the answer would be 7-7:30 pm but sometimes sooner and sometimes later; never sure what determines this other than the obvious Del Mar Fair or Racetrack problems.

San Diego traffic is notoriously unpredictable. My daughter lives in El Cajon, and works in Sorento Mesa. Some days it takes 45 minutes, and others it takes 2 hours. Luckily, she has a very flexible job.

If you aren't familiar with the area, plan on at least an hour. Take 8 to 805 and merge to 5. Check traffic reports on the TV news first to make sure there aren't any traffic alerts. Give yourself plenty of time, and eat before you leave.

I would recommend using public transportation for your commute. The MTS bus can take you from the college area to either downtown or Old town stations #115 to Downtown or #41 to Old Town. From either Downtown or Old Town the Coaster train provides quick low cost rail service directly to Oceanside avoiding all the traffic! A monthly pass is available for regular riders too.

Okay, here's what I know:

Take the 8 to the 805/5. That's the easiest.

As for time, should take 20 minutes, maybe a little longer, if you mean SDSU.

Traffic is at its worst from 7AM-1030AM and again from 230PM-5PM, with obvious variations from accidents, et cetera.

Hope this helps!
