Has anyone ever heard of the theory that nature can be seen repeating itself throughout the Universe? Maybe this isn't the best way to word this, so let me explain:

If you look at rivers, you will see that they fork, starting large and spreading out almost endlessly. The same can be seen in lightning and the veins in your body. Likewise, if you look at a conch shell, you will see that it is formed in a spiral which is very similar to the spiral of the Universe, and maybe even the spiral on the top of your head, where your hair grows.

What is your take on this? Do you feel that it is significant, or just a coincidence? Can you think of any other correlations in nature? Please be respectful of others and me when answering this question, and if you can provide links or other sources to back up your answers, please do so. Thanks!

Those rivers, veins, conch shells, and even the top of your head where your hair grows all came after the universe, so maybe our universe is represented in nature, naturally. Take the spiral - it is truly a universal form. Everything spins. Air, water, and blood currents, even our DNA is in the spiral form. It is constant in our universe, so it must be significant.

A good observation.

I have always believed that one of the prime principles of this universe is similarity within differences and difference within similarities, which gives rise to the uniqueness of everything.... even two leaves of the same branch are not entirely identical nor a tree is absolutely different from a human being in every respect. This is why there is such great pleasure in observing similarity of patterns as you have stated as well as in seeing differences among the various cloud formations in the sky or sequential waves rushing the sea shore.
Thanks for a great question...Star!!

I have never heard it put quite that way but I definitely see repeated patterns as you do. Spirals...interesting observation, though.

I think it may just show that myriad simple systems may give rise to greater complexity.

To me I have always called it 'The pattern that connects"

Fractals....

The infinite metaphor....

This is the awareness one must attain to be enlightened....everything is connected, we are all connected...

the ripple effect....

Parallel realities....

it never ends......
