I'm 17 years old and I really need a job because I totally have nothin to do in my house. I applied like over 4 jobs already and none of them called. I think it is because I have no experience and those jobs were big coorperations. I applied at the AMC, Sears, Vons, Ralps, and Mervins. I want to apply at starbucks but I don't know who to ask for an application. Also do you have any idea where I should start working and have a big chance of getting accepted.

Please don't tell me Mcdonalds

P.S. How do you apply on local resturants as a waiter? I know you walk in but who do you ask?

OK FIRST OF ALL.....HOW THE HELL DO I CHANGE THIS FONT SIZE? THAT SAID...LET ME GIVE YOU SOME ADVICE. FIRST, ITS NOT ENOUGH TO JUST FILL OUT AND DROP OFF AN APPLICATION. YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW IT UP WITH CALL TO THE HUMAN RESOURCE OFFICE OR A MEMBER OF THE MANAGEMENT TEAM. YOU HAVE TO BE ENTHUSIASTIC, AND SHOW YOURE WILLING TO DO A GOOD JOB. AND WHEN YOU GET A GOOD JOB, STICK WITH IT. I STARTED OUT AS AN ICE CREAM SCOOPER FOR BASKIN ROBBINS, LEFT THERE TO GO TO SPEEDWAY AS A CASHIER AND EVENTUAL ASSISTANT MANAGER AT 18. FROM THERE I WENT TO ANOTHER CHAIN AS A MANAGER AND EVENTUAL MERCHANDISING COORDINATOR OF ALL STORES IN OHIO KENTUCKY AND INDIANA. IM NOW A GENERAL MANAGER OF A LARGE GROCERY/DRUGSTORE AND MAKE QUITE GOOD MONEY. ONE THING ABOUT RETAIL...IF YOU WORK HARD AND STICK WITH IT, IT CAN BE VERY REWARDING.
AS FAR AS APPLYING FOR A WAITER POSITION, YOU CANT SERVE ALCOHOL UNTIL YOU ARE 18, SO THAT WONT WORK OUT JUST YET. ALSO I DID WORK FOR MCDONALDS 1 YEAR AND IT SUCKED.
GOOD LUCK WITH THE JOB SEARCH

If you are closer to 18 than 17 it is going to be easier finding a position. Consider the fact that it takes more than filling out applications to get a position. You need to limit applications to places that have current openings, ask when you can expect a interview or when the position will be filled. In the interview stress your positive attitude to learn anything and work any hours and you want the position. You need to always follow up with applications--show a strong desire to have the job.
You can save yourself a lot of time when it comes to a position of waiter, by calling to see if there are any open positions.
You may also consider banks--tellers are often hired as young as 16 or grocery stores hire cashiers/stockers/sackers.

Look around to see where other young people and your friends are working in your area. Then apply there. Since you don't want to work in fast food, your choices are going to be awfully limited. May want to rethink that. And 4 applications is nothing. Apply everywhere and then follow up with a phone call a few days later.

It depends on where you live. I worked at a gas station my neighbors owned when I turned 16. Not a bad job depending on if you live in a good area or not. Hy-vee, Fareway, grocery stores are ALWAYS a good place to start. That or a restaurant.

you have to keep applying everywhere, but alot of places now you have to be at least 18 to work. start asking aroung for age requirements. restaurants you would have to be a hostess first.
